WEEK THREE
on: October 17, 2012, 16:41

😀 😀

Hi runners

How you getting on?

I was doing brilliantly until a niggling muscle strain during my Sunday run brought me to an abrupt halt!

Five miles into my 8 mile run, my hip really hurt - got home OK but was so sore rest of Sunday and Monday. Saw Karen my Chiropractor on Tues and luckily just a series of tight muscles caused a huge cramp! MORE STRETCHING she told me, so left with my tail between my legs!

Should have run Tuesday, but no way i could and should run tomorrow and with you guys on Friday night - so am hoping I will be mended - or plan B will come into play!

I will confirm the time on Friday morning, but maybe able to go for 6pm - I haven't heard from everyone so will go with the majority who have replied to me!

See you Friday I hope

Linz xx

Hello Lins,
Thanks for tonights class really enjoyed it.
Sorry your hip is still bothering you and hope it will soon be better.

Dids and i don't want you and David to turn out on Friday if it's only us and maybe one othere.
We think that would be silly. We can carry on training as we are, then give it a go on the next meet.
What do you think? Dids and i can do 3mls quite easily.

We are happy whatever you decide.

Much Luv Shirley Ann x x

Hi all

Felt like we make progress tonight. managed to do 4k on treadmill. Found this a lot easier most probably because it was flat but has given me a very positive boost. Still suffered with shins but not half as bad. Found that being able to set a pace helped too, slightly faster seemed to help also having my loyal running partner striding ahead doing her first 5k was a joy. Claire did so well and we are both looking forward to next weeks challenge.

Came home and stretched and iced legs so fingers crossed moving in the right direction at last.

You sound like you are doing well Shirley , keep up the good work.

Hope the hip is feeling better Lindsay.

HI Helen

That's really good news - definitely moving in right direction.... Try and keep your runs perfectly flat where possible - even down hill is not that helpful yet.

Great doing it with Claire - assume she was on another treadmill? What gym you using? I was gonna wander over new one this w/e and see what its like. Taken long enough to get going so hope it's going to be good!

My hip is OK - I did 4 miles yesterday - not totally pain free and I ache some now, but hopefully will pass as strangely as it appeared!

David is out this morning in Weymouth running with a couple we have been training for a half mara next w/e in London!! He should be finished in time for class this morning!!

See you next week and hope to hear of continued improvement shin wise! xx

Well, we ran Sunday evening and after 15 minutes I was really suffering, Claire thinks it may be a build up of lactic acid, which seems to make sense and certainly feels that way.

Did you try the new gym? We used leisure centre. I have my induction at the new gym tomorrow so going to try the treadmill again, definitely think you are right about running on the flat so may just try that for a while. So disheartened, really want to do this and never found it so hard! Not giving up though.....will update you!

Hope you hip gets better soon.

Well done David, are you doing the half as well? I really want to enter the bath half for march.

Hxxx

Hi Helen,
What a pain for you. Must be so frustrating when your mind wants to do it and your body lets you down.
Your very fortunate if you don't have teething problems when you first set out.I know i did and still have niggles now.Keep at it kid, never say die. You will come out tops in the end.Lins advice sounds great. If she can't get you through this nobody can. Just do as teacher says.
Dids and i have not ran for ages, we have both had colds then for four days i have had a bad tum.
I have been o.k today and managed step tonight so hope to run tomorrow.
Keep us posted how your doing Helen, it's good to here from you.

Good Morning All - or rather Shirley and Helen!

Well done for run Shirl - ain't it mild? David and I usually go out at 7 am and both today and Tuesday I could've worn vest and shorts!

We generally run the same 4.3 mile loop but go in different direction each time. It has a nice mix of up and downs and flats!

David is much faster than me and I was thinking al the way round how he is 'jogging' along beside me (or rather in front of me) and how very easy it must feel and I am pretty much at full throttle and any hope of conversation would be purely one sided!! Is it his legs that move faster or take bigger strides? I know i have really improved lately, but i still feel incredibly tortoise like when I run and cannot imagine running any faster - but have high hopes that every time i go out summit will happen!!! The things that go round my head when running!!!
Thank goodness for music in my ears - can't imagine life without it - do you use an i-pod or similar? Motivating music really helps drive me on - though I have been known to listen to the Archers too;-)
Have a good run next time.. David has his half mara on Sunday so we are off u to London on Saturday lunchtime xx

Hi Shirl and Lindsay

Thanks very much for encouraging words I do really appreciate it. Went up the new gym on Tuesday and worked out on the cardio equipment but didn't dare run, feeling very nervous now and extremely sad that I am struggling so much.

Good idea about the music I might give that a go. Claire running more and more at gym now, so i will go out in the morning on my own and give it a go.

Will keep icing and stretching in the hope that it will get easier , but don't really know what else to do, giving up is not an option although maybe starting again may be???

Glad you are feeling better Shirl keep up the good work, you are doing so well.

Hope you enjoy the weekend Lindsay, it will be very inspiring watching all those runners!

Love H xx

Hi, Well done David on your run yesterday. Bet it was hard to hold back but great you were a support for your mates.

I ran 4mls yesterday in 39mins. Ifound the last quater tough. Woke up this morning with my shins hurting but put it down to wearing high heeled boots all afternoon after the run. They feel o.k now.

Wish the weather would stay dry and it is so cold.

How are you feeling now Helen?
